I have decided that the best way to learn PHP is to dive straight in and get some practical learning in.

So I am going to start a football related forum. I have chosen vanilla forum to do this as I think this gives something different compared to all the others. Now what I am after is some help. I have installed it locally (and correctly) and everything is working fine.

What I am wanting help with is the following:
1. I need help to get me started creating a custom theme. Mainly I want to change the colour scheme and the header and navigation. Also I want to add a logo to the site as well.

2. I want to start a blog that will be the home page. How do I make the blog the homepage?

3. What sort of hosting will I need to get me started?

Thanks for any help or advice you can offer.

1. http://vanillaforums...themequickstart

2. Vanilla Forums doesn't have any blog functionality as far as I'm aware. I'd advise using Wordpress for that. There's plenty of support for combining Vanilla with WP.

3. Bit subjective really. How big is your forum going to be?

Thanks for the offers of help guys. The whole point of organising the forum was to learn some PHP, as I prefer the hands on learning. So if I am not going to really learn anything from doing it I might just stick with organising the blog. With a bit of luck I might learn some PHP as I go along doing that.

Is there anything you could recommend me doing that could get me into PHP?
