Hello all,
I work with a company asked me some advice about setting up an internal network. I think they are thinking of a LAN but on a city-wide level. Does anyone know the difference between that and a php/mysql forum? I'm having trouble trying to explain it because I don't really know what I'm talking about. Any other ideas for internal (private and fairly high security) networks?
Much Thanks,
Kirsten

If it's city wide, I guess it would tecnically be a MAN (Metopolitan Area Network), which isn't too common iic (from CCNA days lol).

Could also go down VPN route though.

Not sure what you mean about the difference between a network and forum. That's like asking what the difference between an apple and house is - 2 seperate things totally.

Also, why the heck are you giving out advice on something as specialised and mission critical as networking wqhen you've admitted you know nothing. IF you know nothing, refer them to someone who does :) There's a reason qualified network people can work on fees of £400-£500 per day.

Because I live in France LOL. I wasn't offical advice just conversational. I was thinking a closed forum might suit just as well for their needs (which they don't really seem to be able to express clearly).

Actually I phrased that wrong. I meant anyone know how to explain the difference between a php forum and a network? I think the building and apple will work just fine for now.

Seriously though, if you know anyone else based in France who is qualified let me know.

Actually a VPN would probably work fine but we're talking about older and not very computer-savvy people here. Any recommendations for a VERY easy to use VPN would be greatly appreciated.
