Although I'm de-registering myself as self-employed as I've got a job I've got to do my tax return for 10-11.

Problem is I've firstly lost my interest certificate for my bank account. It's only gonna be about a quid, the interest I get is nothing - so does this matter? Do I even need to declare it?

I found it, it's a pathetic 29p, and the self-assessment form doesn't even let me type in 29p :S so just ignore this?

I've also lost my P60 from last year. I dunno where the hell it is, I never throw anything important away but I can't find it - can my employer just give me another?

ALSO I've never, ever received a "Coding Notice" so I have no idea how I'm meant to fill in the underpaid/overpaid tax sections :S

Also, is anyone else doing this online? I'm finding the whole process a bit tedious, that tax year I barely earned anything!

I will be doing this at some point, for the first time, and all of a sudden i'm not looking forward to it.

  • Leave the interest blank if only 29p
  • You need your P60 and your employer should be able to provide you with a copy, otherwise you need to find all of your wage slips and add it up manually
  • You don't need a cCoding Notice - it only tells you what tax code you are on and you can get that from your wage slip/P60, once you have your P60 and have filled in the online form most of it is calculated for you
  • You will know if you have underpaid or overpaid tax from previous tax returns (if you have any from before) but otherwise leave them as if you have over or underpaid for 2010-2011 the system will calculate that once you have completed the whole form.
