I'm pretty sure I'm not the only one (at least on this planet) who thinks it's annoying that when you open an image, that the layer is locked and you will have to duplicate it first or you won't be able to do certain things with the layer.
Is there a way that when you open an image that the restriction doesn't appear?
TBH I don't quite get the point of it anyway, why the layer is always locked when you open a single layered image.

PS CSx locked layers are so annoying

It's locked because it's good practice to work on a duplicate of an image rather than the original.
No idea about turning it off but all i do is double click it.

This is what I do too. You SHOULD be working from a duplicate image, every time you make a major change you should be copying the layer and making your changes on top... It helps provide version control for your PSD.
