Hi!

I’m pretty new to web design. I’ve done a few Dreamweaver courses, and I’m learning HTML, CSS, PHP and Javascript in my own time. I plan to learn Photoshop InDesign and Illustrator as I go along… I want to learn all that I can, but what I’d really like is to be able to get some practical experience.

Does anyone one know of any internships/apprenticeships or even junior jobs in the London area? So far most of the junior/entry level jobs want someone with at least 1 yrs experience (which is fair enough) or a degree in IT or computer science.

Any advice would be appreciated

Thanks guys

I think your best approach would be to locate as many agencies/companies in your area and ask. Write letters, knock on the door...

As above. Go out there and see who needs stuff doing.
Charities and community groups always need cheap/free labour so see if you can work with them to get some experience.
Either that or get a friend to write a brief on a website they'd like to see and set yourself an amount of time and do it.

Thanks, I'll see what I can get going.

What's the view on courses? I'll probably do a Photoshop course in the next month or so, but I read in another thread that they don't hold much weight compared to a portfolio.

Is the best thing to do just learn by doing?
