Hi all,
I've been working on a new concept for my site. I know I need to work on the typography, but what do you think as a concept?
the url is: Dharma concept
I'm building on the "dharma" theme, so its mimilist and dare i say it "zen-ish". Is it too simple? Is it simple ot the point of boring?

Here is my current site for comparison: current site

I must add that the conetent isnt finalised and there are mistakes, the text that is there is little more than a place holder. I'll work on the content later

Horizontal scrolling rarely, if ever, works.
Horizontal WITH Vertical scrolling won't work until we are all on touch screen devices and come around to the idea that a webpage is a single flat page and we are just viewing a 'frame' of it at a time, which we can slide about.

People are used to going top to bottom. Switching it up on them and going left to right requires a lot of things to fall into place or they will run away scared and confused. You need a bit of Javascript to make their mouse wheel scroll the right way, it has to be obvious that the content is in 'slides', each frame has to be about the width of their browser and navigation needs to be very distinct and very constant.

Unfortunately you don't really have any of those. For example if I want to read all information about your products I have to scroll along and then down so not only have to created a giant blank space underneath most slides, you've switched up the status quo on people then switched it back.

To be totally honest I didn't even realise that to scroll left and right. I just clicked on the links in the navigation. That could just be because I am thick. I think you need to work on making the fact that you need to scroll left to right more obvious.

Thanks guys for your opinion.
Glowbridge: I dont understand why you need to scroll down, it should all be on one level. but I take your points on board.
RobbieD9o: Very true.

As I said , its just a concept. I'm trying to find a design that is "outside of the box". At the moment, my site is very traditional, static and if I'm honest with myself, boring and uninspiring. I seem to be stuck in mid 90's "top, left, bottom" layouts, So I'm trying to bring myself up to date. Saying that, I don't want to slavishly follow the current web trends of big sliders etc. Sooo back to the drawing board.
Thanks again

The jQuery sliding pages seems to be something every web designer has to try at least once :) It does look cool and might a be a "wow" factor for some clients visiting your website. For potential employers it might prove that you're following the industry trends. However like other have mentioned usability wise it's bad. Which means you have to decide which you value more, good usability or the wow-factor that your site might give.

In your earlier post you said that you're going back to the drawing board. Don't take this the wrong way, But make sure you stay there for a few days. None of your layouts look refined. It seems like you haven't given them much thought and just jumped straight at it in your texteditor and figured stuff out on the fly. Having every single page mocked-up in illustrator, fireworks or photoshop is very much required imho.

Also, what's this about?
PLEASE NOTE: Whilst we respect the individuals choice of site, we will not build sites for pornographic, military, weapons sale, hate groups etc.

It seems somewhat ridiculous to have such notice on your frontpage. Have you even ever been asked to build such web site? If so, just decline them in private. I doubt that the amount of offers you receive from hategroups is so overwhelming that you need to let them know directly on the frontpage.
