Hi,
I have two websites for my business, one .co.uk and the other .com.. One was ranked well for searches in one area ( the .com ). I then have built another site with the same url but .co.uk, with completely different content and optimised for a different geographical area.
My knowledge free ( ethical ) seo work is starting to have an impact on the new .co.uk. But the old site is no longer ranking very well, still on the front page but not in the google local listings.
Are the two linked? is one impacting the other? I cant see how it is.
Thanks,
D

No as long as they have different content and are targeting different areas I don't think they should effect each other. Sometimes rankings can drop as Google keeps on updating it's algorithm regularly. So just keep on doing the SEO for your website.

If the two sites have different purposes and different content then there's no reason they should be adversely affecting each other.
If the two sites are related but have different content then you could do one site some good by linking from the other.
Sites fall and rise in search in ebbs and flows depending on
1. Algorithm Updates
2. How you change your own website
3. The quality of the content and links to your website
4. Your keyword strategy
5. What other sites are doing ...
etc etc so the simple ownership of two unrelated sites won't be a problem. The only thing that comes to mind was if you had
www.my-blue-widgets.co.uk AND
www.my-blue-widgets.com
then depending on how well optimised both addresses are, you may find the .com ranks better for 'my blue widgets' just due to exact match.
But all in all, I wouldn't worry and keep focussing on your organic, ethical SEO activities and making sure you don't have duplicate content.

If you use different content, titles, meta tags etc, then they will be treated as two different sites and not impact each other!

Remember domain age is a big factor in Google ranking, which would explain why your original site
is ranking well.
Sam
is ranking well.
