Too niche?

In a nutshell, the site will give work-out advice to people who suffer from a particular medical problem. I've done as much research as I can and I can't find any websites out there doing the same thing. There are plenty of forum posts, blog entries etc from people seeking advice but no actual website specializing in this topic.
The problem is there is no easy way to search the topic and so you have to use long phrases such as 'workout advice for people with...'. Is there any way I can make a more concise search and what are most people who need this sort of information likely to type in?
Hope you guys can help.

Or grab a few people and ask them to find info on work outs for people with [thing]. Watch what they search for. You'll have to be careful not to inadvertently skew the results by suggesting a particular phrase though. Best to let them have a go, if nothing comes up, let them try again and they'll come up with some variations themselves. If a few keep popping up then target that.
However, if you have some decent content and you get it indexed, you'll start to appear for combinations of [thing] and workout related terms organically.
If it's really niche and you plan it out, you can own it.

This way you can put in the words you think work and Google can tell you what people are actually putting in. As henbast rightly says if you are niche AND people are searching for it then if you do the right SEO stuff you can be really strong in your rankings quite quickly.
The important thing is to get the keyword combinations people are really using rather than what you would put in yourself.

You can also post in those forums linking the people who haven't found an answer to the relevant page on your site (not to the site in general - there's a difference between offering a helpful link and spamming for self-promotion).

So lets say over the year you manage to get 500 signups (double-opt-in), there is a good chance they will stay signed up because its so relevant and you can push whatever you want through that as well.
This type of digital marketing is the best converting.

There are many unique queries that people search for every day, so I think you should just generalize the terms that you want to target for your websites. Also try to type the term in Google and look for suggestions that follow up, that is always a good help.

I wasn't planning on having a blog but do you think this would be useful for getting repeat visitors?

If you can do a blog and add to it regularly (everyday, once a week, once a month... whatever but be consistent) then you can increase the likelihood of repeat visitors, yes.
And make sure the content you are adding is related in some way to what you do or the area you work in.

Yes those are great SEO (search engine optimization) tips. If you have the time to write then having a blog will also help a lot.
Someone up there suggested using google keywords, i agree, it is a free tool and so amazing..another good website is Wordtracker.com, it has a similar sort of service and it has a lot of video tutorials on how to increase your visit, their tutorials are golden especially if you dont know a lot abou SEO, keywords etc.. Informative and easy to understand. The only problem with wordtracker is that it costs a lot of money, the good news is they give you 7 days trials so if i was you I'd grab the free trial and make the best of it.
Your site sounds interesting, dont forget to post it here when its ready, im curious to see it!
