Hi everyone,

I decided to have a go at making my own wordpress theme using the bones framework. It's a horizontal portfolio site which uses a bit of jquery here and there. It's my first ever design and I've been learning web design for about 3 months now.

If anyone could point me in the right direction and point out any mistakes it would be awesome :)

Thanks in advance

Chris :)

You're kidding me? First website ever, looks really good, impressed!

Just a few things:

  • I couldn't find an option to scroll through the images on the 'home' area.
  • Lightbox on portfolio - Missing 'close' image.
  • No scrollbar in Opera (yeh, I use Opera).

Haven't done too much testing, but from what Ive seen already it looks really good.

Nice work!

It's nice.
Try to make your logo bigger. I would have made the site a little higher or align it to the middle of the window height.

Thanks J.P!

By being able to scroll through the home images do you mean like a sort of play button on a slideshow that would move the screen automatically? As couldn't users just use the scroll bar or the right key to move through them? Sorry don't really understand what you are getting at!

Thanks for pointing out the missing image on the lightbox :D

When I test on Opera there is a scroll bar along the horizontal but on pages where you need to scroll down like on the tutorial pages it's not there so again thanks for pointing that out :D

Thanks for the input, but to be honest I don't really like the idea of increasing the size of the logo and shifting up into the black section. My reason being that as a photography website the first thing I want users to look at is the photographs, if I move it to where you suggest it draws the users eyes up into that top corner and away from the photographs, it's just too bold and imposing. Thanks though :D

Add some sort of scroll bar right below the images to get them scrolling. Using the default browser scroll bar at the bottom just isn't working out.

That's really nice, Chris. I love your pictures, too.

The close image is still missing from the lightbox.

Thanks for the tip, I tried to use some js to change the mouse scroll direction but it wouldn't pan out so I might try putting a bar under the images like you said.
