Hi there,

I am rather new on here and also to the wonders of the world wide web! I have been hanging around the SEO forum trying to get a handle on how to get my site up the rankings... resulting in my throwing a mini tantrum yesterday with the constant supply of contradicting information..

I have been writing articles for my business, principally to use for gaining on the SERPS. Having been told to write one and "spin" any number off the back of them, i find myself resistant to do this. I really want to write things that will help, but given my industry is so boring and unglamorous, there is very little a can write about that would engage any readers and searchers.

I run a very small domestic cleaning company...( although i have designs on becoming a web designer/copywriter/novelist/helicopter pilot, round the world everest racer, and inventor of a challenger to the full stop ) I have managed to write a few articles, but they are predictable, eg how to chose a good cleaning contractor, things to look out for when employing a cleaner!, hints and tips for cleaning your home.

So you see my problem, I want to gain on serps and don't want to spam the web with useless articles, but what else can i write about when my subject matter is so dull? Not sure if its a question of morality or effort vs reward.

Thanks,

D

Hi D

As copywriters, we run into this dilemma all the time. Most businesses and products are boring (sorry, business owners!) and creating good copy for them is hard work. From your post above, I would suggest that you may be able to include humour in your articles to make them more interesting and engaging. I completely agree with you that spinning your articles is a heinous and despicable thing; I'm so glad you're not going to buy into all that spam crap. It's bad for the soul.

Create something useful (home cleaning guides) with a little bit of colour and humour, and you'll be doing well. As for replacing the full stop, I can't wait. That little b@stard's been at the top of his game for too long.

..and remember justlearning, getting your info found is one thing, getting visitors to convert upon finding the website is even more important.

How many people want to read a tedious article that's soul purpose in being created was to get ranked high in the SERPS?

Make it interesting, try and take a different perspective - add some humour, put some thought into the articles and you will be rewarded.

An interesting tactic used by a hotel website on another thread we discussed was how they were poking fun at how naf it all was - yeah a risky tactic but definitely a talking point.

Not saying that's what you should do with your cleaning articles but I do think it's food for thought.
