OK, on a regular basis i receive PM's from regular members stating...

"I want to find a decent developer/designer to partner with to complete my skill set"

Whether this is to extend your skills or learn something new, partnering can be worthwhile.
When i was learning (and still am obviously) i worked along side many many other people, all of which had their individual skill sets and i learnt from them, rapidly. It helped me grow and improve and while i think everyone here at WDF does an excellent job at helping people further their careers and knowledge i also think that people need a place to search for that special someone. Think of it like a WDF dating agency ;)

First off...

This is not a looking to hire section!

... This is not about money this is about skills and sharing!
(and maybe a little bit to lighten the load on my damn Skype account).
If you want to hook up with someone who has the skills you're lacking, if perhaps you want to do a little bit of design in exchange for a little bit of development or if perhaps you just fancy developers (someone has to) then feel to post in here!

Thank you for this Mike :) I am looking for a partner , web designer. Since I mostly been around web developers I don't know that many good designers to work with and this is becoming a pain for my personal projects or when small clients want a custom application. I have tried outsourcing but I am not satisfied with that solution. About me: I am a full time developer @ http://visual.ly. I have many side projects and personal projects and in a couple of months the plan would be to make the switch and go freelancing or start a new firm. All my career I have worked with web developers so I think this is the best place to find a web designer who wants to partner.
Btw...if people are not interested to partner, but are interested in trading services I am up to that too because I need a portofolio site up and running and I will offer development hours for that. The reason that I do not hire someone to do this is because I believe receiving quality work and giving back quality work is better than paying, also I am a big noob when it comes to design rates.

I've been considering a partnership for 2012 for a new creative service aimed at a more 'off-the-wall' and creative market - but I can't decide if partnering would be a good idea or not.

I prefer to use the term, project sharing.

My company to be...ism-design, is also a partnership kind of thing in as much that I run/own the company as sole director, and my friends/developers are brought in a project that requires their skillset and they call me when they need an UI design or whatever.

They all have their own companies, also single owners and love this way of sharing projects.

Although a lot tougher for an individual to promote yourself and source customers.

Too much staff usually causes companies to collapse under the financial burden, freelancers can work together when they want, like a temporary partner for hire.

Would be interesting if the forum would get/source projects and ask the entire forum to build it, and pay for the elements used only ofcourse.

We would all be partners.

Hi Everyone!

I've been working on a little project for about a year that involves Buddypress & Wordpress.

The Outline

Basically I wanted to create a website for Photographers and Artists similar to Flickr/Red Bubble/500px etc..
I'm not going to say "it's a trillion dollar idea" like the perser guy, in fact I'm not sure if it would make anything at all I just wanted to build a new community based on honest feedback.

The problem with these websites is that when everyone leaves feedback on photos they just leave really bad mindless positive feedback. flickr is flooded with fake feedback and I would like to know what happened to honest feedback that is actually helpful.

The reason I wanted to make the site was because I was fed up of everyone giving me these stupidly positive comments that did nothing to help me grow as a photographer.

The Idea

In short I want to reward members for giving out constructive criticism rather than 1 word bullcrap feedback. The philosophy behind the site is create/share/critique, I know it will be a pain in the ass to get honest feedback because the reason people give crappy positive feedback is to get crappy positive feedback in return, but this just leads to a fake community where nothing is real.

The Site

At the moment the site just runs off of one of Orman Claks themes but I'm confident enough in Web Design now to create my own theme for the site.

The Help

The reason I never managed to get this finished was because I know nothing of Developing! I somehow managed by some freak of nature to get the uploaded images to extract and display exif information but that was a fluke!

I had my best friend help out who is a computer science graduate but he just doesn't have the time to help any more so it's stuck in a deadzone.

I'm basically looking for a partner who knows web development like the back of their hands but also wordpress, the only things left to do on the site revolve around modifying the bp album + plugin to display likes, image views and sorting by most liked, popular and so on.

I would even be happy with designers help too if anyone at all is interested.

If the site ever did go live, it would make cash from premium accounts (yearly charge) and advertising from photobox and other photography/art printers, all money (if any) would be split based on however many people want to help out.

Let me know what you guys think and PM me if anyones interested.

I actually partnered up with a person I met on this forum about a year and a half ago. Through him I met another awesome guy, with whom I worked full time for about a year, up until this New Years Eve. We've since decided to go our separate ways.

I wish all of you happy hunting!

Haha! Well, the moral is that if I didn't give someone the chance, I wouldn't have the opportunity to work with awesome people on awesome projects.

Excellent Topic and just what I'm looking for.

Within the next few months, my personal company will go online. It will be a Web Design and Development (online based) agency.

The main objective of the company is to cater for businesses that want to have an online presence. So our company will help businesses get settled into the world of eCommerce by providing a design for their online shop, and setting up all the eCommerce back-end (using existing carts).

I am more of a developer and occasionally dabble in design. But would like to partner up with a good designer (must have portfolio) who has good experience of designing for the eCommerce world.

The way I'd like this partnership to work is:

  • You get listed on the company website as Team Designer.
  • Work closely with me and others to meet specifications set by customer.
  • I, or the company will not be employing you, so there won't be a monthly wage.
  • Instead, you will get paid on project basis.
  • Price does matter to customers, so need reasonable design costs.

If you are interested, and fit what I'm looking for, please do not hesitate to contact me.

Thank You.

I'm looking for someone to partner with; someone who has funds to buy into my company as well as someone who can handle the marketing side of the business. I started scriptsconnect.com and scriptslancer.com, both of which cater to what we all do. scriptsconnect.com is for selling digital media, whereas scriptslancer.com is for freelance job listings. I've spent a lot of time developing these businesses, and the only thing lacking is the marketing to get people in the door. I am more concerned with scriptslancer.com. The difficult part is finding people and companies that will post their job needs there for freelancers to bid on. Finding freelancers is no difficult task. I'm a member of 20+ forums, and if decent jobs are posted they will bid happily.

If anyone is truly interested, please get in touch with me.

Hi, I'd like to make a couple of observations (and hopefully you won't take offence as none intended)

scriptslancer.com - this looks like a combination of elance + freelancer.com + peopleperhour. The thing is there's nothing really to elevate it above them in terms of design, functionality, content.

I am not critising you for making the venture, it's something myself and a couple of others have discussed in the past. There's absolutely nothing to stop somebody coming along and making something on a model already out there (look at instagram) but a newcommer to the party has to at least do something better than the others or have a new twist.

The first thing to consider would be the design, if somehow you could attract a younger audience it make take off.

All the best with it.

With uni looking like it’s behind me I have seriously been contemplating getting a partner and going limited as I can now put in the commitment that is needed. I think there are a few reasons why having a partner can be so beneficial; it’s like going to the gym it’s much easy to actually go each day when you go with friends and not going will let them down, having them check of help with the designs and its harder to make mistakes if two pairs of eyes go over things and lastly freelancing can be quite lonely. I think being it that situation gives you an easy road in to expanding if needed. I’m really looking at transforming my freelancing into a design agency and hook clients with the range of services, and services mean monthly income and security. I think for now as the work comes in I’ll be contracting it out to my desired partners to prove the work is there, plus then I can see what they can do.
