Hi,
I will be re-building a website for a company, using the WordPress system. But their current hosting company do not allow any CMS's. So I will be using a different host for this project.
They have asked me the following of which I am not 100% sure what they mean, could someone explain to me what I would need to do please:
I’ll need you to let me know an IP for the www. record too and we’ll redirect the DNS to that when ready. We will hold the DNS records on our side as all their internal business services are managed by us.
I though that a simple change of nameservers would do the trick to point the domain name to the new hosting account?
Thanks in advance,
Huw

Hi Huw,
It appears they've asked you for the IP of a new hosting company that you wish to point the website to. This is similar to changing the nameservers, except the DNS will be hosted with them and only the main website service will be effected. This option is usually chosen when you only want to move services such as the website, but keep mail services etc in the old location.
I hope this makes sense.
Kind Regards,
Thomas

Changing the name servers would move all services across to yourself. The company in question want to keep the DNS hosted an controlled by themselves - for instance, they may have lots of extra records pointing to different services they offer.
The email is asking for your IP so he change the A records to point to your web hosting. So when a request is made for your website, your hosting is used. When a request is made for an existing service on the same domain, their own IPs are used.
Think of DNS entries for a domain as a kind of address book
EDIT: make sure they change both records - for the www. and none www. version of the site.
