Here is the first design phase of a website that I'm currently working on, I would appreciate some feedback regarding design, style, layout, colour and anything else that might need pointing out.

I am aware there is no header/company logo but that will follow in a later phase of the development. At the moment I have only designed the landing page (home page) once I have gotten some feedback, I will then move on further with the design.

The Company I am designing it for are looking for a site to advertise what products they have forsale in the shop. They are a local family run business.

Besides the spelling mistake "devlivery" I think it is a bit boring, probably too early to ask for feedback.

Does the company have a look/brand that you can use in your design.

I would prefer to see a sidebar instead of full width divs, this would prevent me from having to scroll all the way down to see all content.

Also do not like the form at the bottom, again too early to make comments, not enough styling.

Add their logo and come back again.

Honestly I don't like it. It is very cliche 'Web2.0', which isn't good. The first wave of small 'web apps' all had this kind of design. Diagonal stripes, big bubbly buttons, candy colours and I instantly think of button generators/stripe generators when I see it.

It is very in your face and it is quite confusing. You need to tone it down quite a bit. The background stripes are FAR too obvious and just make me dizzy when scrolling. The lighter stripes between products don't do anything but distract me again inside the product listings. The boxes are massive and makes the gradients super obvious. The most important part of any eCommerce site is showing users products and having them easily determine what is being sold. Instead your page is dominated by a background image and giant blue bubbly shapes.

I would ditch the diagonal stripes all together. Drastically reduce the size of the header and footer and calm down that blue colour a bit. It's very shocking (Although the size of the header/footer could be contributing to that)

Thanks for the feedback, I will post another revision, once I have it altered.

I take it web 2.0 is a no no?

The gradients are much too strong. Tone them down.

Yep I see that now, was kinda looking at it thinking there was something really wrong with it but just couldn't put my finger on it, I'm already in the process of altering it based on the current feedback.

Please don't stop there, like my experience says "beginner" I'm after all the constructive criticism I can get to mould my skills into something I can be proud of.

Any question, should I be sticking to the web safe colours or am I ok to use other colours?

Don't worry about web safe colours. It's a relic.

Ok, so I've taken what was said regarding the last design idea and have come up with a different design along with more sample content.

The first image would be the home page, where you can see up to 6 of the latest offers, and the second is a list view of certain products within a category and the final is a sample of an individual product with description.

Please feel free to leave feedback regarding this design.

You can use inset for the the background of the highlighted main navigation instead of just putting a opposite gradient. See http://apple.com 's navigation for an example.

hi, thanks for the feedback, they don't want a shopping cart as they are a small local business, this might be something they want at a later date.

The site is really just to show what they have to offer

Try making your web designs in more realistic sizes, google "960 grid system" and read about the grid alignment techniques :)
