Hi Guys,

Can anyone please tell me the best way to go about this?

I've identified a few potential clients locally, do I email, telephone, write, use a flyer?

Any advice much appreciated.

In person is usually better in my opinion. Meet them, talk to them and at very least leave a business card.

Yeah, just pop in, ask to speak to the manager/person in charge etc. Don't launch in to a sales caampaign, simply sah Hi, tell them who you are and what you, offer (don't push) to leave a business card or two and let them know they can call you anytime should they require your assistance.

If nothing after a week/10 days drop a polite email in their inbox, remind them who you are and when you spoke to them. Have a special offer at the timee? Good, drop that in the email to ;)

Not everybody is going to say yes, and continued pressure will result in either bad publicity or some dude laying you out lol

Phone them up. Be brief, then follow up with email info and examples of work. Then call again the following week. Best not to call on a Monday or Friday IMHO - would be interested what others think about that.

Clients should be stalked as carefully as one would a wild beast, as
when cornered clients will often ask an awkward question that you must
be ready for or better still prepared an answer in advance.

Guess what my first question would be to anybody from mharisweb.co.uk looking for work?

He could be targeting pirates? :D

On a more relevant note, appearance is important especially when visiting businesses... suit up etc and look the part but do be careful as to not go over the top if for example your targeting small business.

As for business cards and flyers etc, they are a good tool but certainly as many of us will know having been given them... will get lost and very often don't stand out... I know of a few companies now that ditch them altogether for sales purposes and use postcard sized business cards and A4 square booklets to good success... being a bit different...

As to the conversation, ask about their business (an understanding of businesses is usually a plus), ask about their problems/concerns etc and certainly seem interested, if you can offer a solution to one of their problems mention it (un-forcefully) and if not part ways and leave a card etc as suggested above.

Hope that helps :)
