I'll be releasing my new plugin (a fork of Joel Pan's abandoned Acronyms plugin) to the WordPress repository in the next few days.

Meanwhile, if anyone wants to grab the beta you're more than welcome, as long as you give me feedback - I've only been able to test it on a limited selection of themes, so the more the merrier. It should detect whether your theme is HTML5 or not, and output either <abbr> or <acronym> appropriately (that's the functionality I added, so obviously that's the bit I'm most interested in feedback on).

Well as far as i remember the original plugin let users keep a list of acrynoms which would then be converted to use the <acrynom> tag. Now HTML5 has done away with <acrynom> and replaced it with <abbr> tags.

It seems Chris has taken up the mantel of continuing the plugins development as well as adding support for the plugin to detect whether you're using HTML5 or lower and adjusts the tag accordingly.

Brilliant for tech blogs.

Just pushed an update to the plugin to fix a bug I inherited from the old version that was preventing editing of existing acronyms. Not sure how I missed that, but if you're running 2.0.0, upgrade to 2.0.1.
