Hi,

When you send a contract to a client, sometimes he wants to change something. Then maybe you send the modified version and he wants to change it again.

So what I do is that I say to my clients at the beggining : « Ok here is the contract I propose to you (a Word doc), if you agree with it I will send you exactly the same thing (the same Word doc) but this time it will be electronically signed by me and to be signed by you. »

Yet I find it kind of boring. How do you deal with this ?

Boring it mat be but it saves you from a lot of hassle if something goes wrong. Suck it up and get on with boring or not.

Ah ok I thought I was the only one to do this actually, so that's cool to know it's normal practice. And yeah it's definitely safe !

I wouldn't be sending any documnets in word format, not very professional, neither is it safe as the client can simply open up word, open office etc and edit whatever they like, and it has your signature on it!

Save, and send as pdf, much safer :)

Though, I do try to hand contracts to clients in person, so much more personal.

You're right PDF is better. Thanks guys for your advices !

One more thing: for those who use EchoSign or other electronic signature systems, do you sign your contracts before sending them to the clients, or to you require the client only to sign (but not yourself) ?

Sign before sending. The contract's there to protect both of you, and it's no protection for the client without your sig.

sign a bit of paper and scan it. My details have been stolen twice and used to obtain loans etc so I have a different sig for contracts as i do for everything else.
