Me again. I have looked all over the place and there seems to be different ways to install drupal, but none of them have worked yet. One of my main problems is that the command line command chmod a+w sites/default hasn't done anything. apparently it is suppose to let some files create themselves. I have tried to copy the files to the server, but i think i put them in the wrong locations. :shok: Any help would be appreciated.

what host are you using? most of the ones I have used have a 1 touch install.

other than that it's a matter of setting up the database and correcting the fields through the install process.

well if you're using drupal you'll need to have a good understanding of where it is.

if you're using the command line I'm assuming you've hosted it locally on your computer?

What problem are you having exactly? When you install Drupal it should tell you what you need to do next to complete the installation when you visit the url.

Just make your life simple buy a shared hosting package with Cpanel & softaculous , you can install Drupal within a minute rather than playing around with files, permission on command lines.

here are the issues that drupal is having.

Web server Apache/2.2.14 (Ubuntu)
OK
PHP 5.3.2-1ubuntu4.9
OK
PHP register globals Disabled
Error
PHP extensions Disabled
Drupal requires you to enable the PHP extensions in the following list (see the system requirements page for more information):

* gd

OK
Database support Enabled
OK
PHP memory limit 128M
Error
File system
The directory sites/default/files does not exist. An automated attempt to create this directory failed, possibly due to a permissions problem. To proceed with the installation, either create the directory and modify its permissions manually or ensure that the installer has the permissions to create it automatically. For more information, see INSTALL.txt or the online handbook.

OK
Unicode library PHP Mbstring Extension
Error
Settings file The settings file does not exist.
The Drupal installer requires that you create a settings file as part of the installation process. Copy the ./sites/default/default.settings.php file to ./sites/default/settings.php. More details about installing Drupal are available in INSTALL.txt.

The issues are outlined in red for convenience.

I wish. My instructor wants me to do it the hard way so that the easy ways are even easier.

And Permissions aren't an issue, except for the program to "write itself". That is a problem.

have u tried installing it on your own pc first using wamp or xampp?

installing drupal is not at all difficult u just need to have access of php myadmin and know how to setup privileges for the specific database and from there its just as easy as ever no need to write any code i don't know why u choosing the hard way ?

i didn't spend much time on permissions. in this class as soon as i start using one thing i seem to have to move on to something else.

if you're working with anything php based hosting locally is a GREAT tool

take some time and learn about mamp/wamp/xampp and you'll be MUCH better off down the road.

i did my practicum in drupal... might help you get started a bit as you move through projects
