Hi,
I have attempted to pull together as much detail as I can for this ecommerce web design and database project to give as comprehensive an overview as possible based on feedback I’ve seen on boards. I do not work in the industry but will try and answer any questions I can. Please email me if you would like any more clarification (paulbigfeet@hotmail.co.uk). Thanks for reading the post.

Project Overview
Timescale. I would like the site to be operational by the end of December 2011.

Budget. £1000

Location. This is a remote location project

Technical Requirements. This is a new company and does not have an affiliation with any product supplier. The designer will be able to advise on the best tools for the job. Ideally I would like the database to be able to be exported to excel for manipulation if needed.

Content. I have written the content for each page and some basic backend SEO for each page. This can be emailed to the designer straight away.

Maintenance. I will be the single employee of the company. I would like the designed site to be able to be updated by myself in the future (changing text / products / headlines etc)
Software. I do not own any software and will be guided by the reasoned preferences of the developer for things such as shopping cart / checkout software etc

Developer Requirements. Ideally I would like a Newcastle / Northumberland based designer so face-to-face discussions could take place if needed. I would like the appointed designer to be responsible for all elements of the project, if they have to farm out certain elements then I would like to be made aware in advance.

Logo. I have registered a domain name and have a marketing strap line, however I do not have a logo currently. I should be able to get one made and sent to the developer if this is needed.

Hosting. I have not arranged hosting yet, I will listen to the views of the developer for any considerations they have.

Project Scope.
Website - basic overview of pages below. (In addition I require a customer details database)
The site will be selling crime prevention products from various manufactures and so will need to be e-commerce. I will not be holding stock but selling their products through my site. I will need to be able to upload product information, price and pictures to the site and remove them as appropriate.

I have a basic idea of how I visualise the site to look on a word doc if needed

The following section summarises the 'general' pages needed

1. Home
2. Terms and conditions
3. Privacy
4. Contact us
5. email / newsletter sign up page
6. real life stories
7. press stories
8. special offers
9. Reports page

The following 'product' pages will be needed. (Initially I would like 6 products per page, but for the page to be flexible if I want to have 5 or 8 products for example.)

1. Robbery / pick pocket prevention
2. Personal / child security
3. Sexual offences / DV prevention
4. Bike security
5. Motorcycle theft prevention
6. Theft from car prevention
7. Theft of car prevention
8. Bogus official prevention
9. Burglary prevention
10. General home security
11. Garage theft prevention
12. Shed burglary prevention
13. Noisy neighbour prevention
14. Youth ASB prevention

All of the above pages have content written for them and SEO details.
In addition there will need to be any relevant checkout pages, I will write the content for them.

To summarise - The Overall Site PlanStyle / colour / eg of sites to base on. The site should be easy to navigate, read, decent size and style of text, not too cluttered, easy to use,

The product pages of the site should have 'extra information' sections that open up when clicked on - something similar to Ikea http://www.ikea.com/.../kitchen/10470/

Site security is key. I can’t have theft from users. I will need systems to protect site, cart, email system, database etc. I would use any systems as advised by the designer.

Customer Info Database fields. This may need a system that can be accessed by supplier companies so they can see what orders have been paid for and then they need to process, so a log in facility may be needed so they can see these orders, ship them and record this on the database

Additional Features for Home / contact us / special offers pagesMost read stories list like (BBC top stories) http://www.bbc.co.uk...africa-15224301
Best selling product list (like BBC top stories)
Include ‘fact of the day’ feature which I will change each day
Include share this via sms, email and facebook and other similar icons at end of each story
Real life stories will play a part on most product pages. These pages will need space for pictures and future pictures to be able to be easyily uploaded

Features for Home Page and Real Life Stories PageI would like these 2 pages to have a rotation of 'real life stories' with a image, that could then be expanded, a similar concept is on hotmail pages where they have seven stories rotating through as shown on this link. http://uk.msn.com/?ocid=hmlogout

This above email is a wish list and is very dependent on the price / time considerations they cause.

Please email me if you are interested in this project, I will be happy to discuss any element of it.

Many Thanks

Paul
