Hide&Seek is looking for a Junior Technologist to begin working with us in early November. The salary is £18 – 22k, dependent on experience. Almost all of our projects have digital elements that need looking after and we’re looking for someone to help us with that.

Hide&Seek is a game design studio dedicated to inventing new kinds of play. We’ve worked really hard over the last 6 months to secure an extensive range of exciting but challenging projects for a range of clients from the cultural, commercial and broadcast media sectors.

We are platform-agnostic – every project we take on goes on the platform it suits best. We work with a network of partners and suppliers to create the right team for each project. We like it this way, as it keeps us agile and able to match every brief to the perfect technology.

However, almost all our projects have digital elements that need some kind of looking after, an increasing amount of which is happening in-house. We’re looking for a graduate lover of code who can take some of this on.

That might entail: working on swift, simple website builds; building small prototype tools; managing analytics services; wrangling the various online systems we use to manage our work. Often, that’ll come down to learning a new tool or platform quickly in order to get things done.

And sometimes, we just want to build things. We’d like it if the crazy idea we had for an iPhone app this morning could be ready to play with the following week. And if sometimes we could take a digital prototype with us to that big pitch meeting, that would be great too.

We’d like to meet someone with:

• A versatile, pragmatic approach to writing code: you’ll be used to balancing “getting it right” against “getting it done”.
• A disciplined work ethic and a willingness to undertake tech admin work.
• Great team-working skills.
• Tidy front-end skills: you may not be a designer, but you care how things look and work.
• A love of games, and passion for Hide&Seek’s work.
• A diverse portfolio of work: web, flash, smartphone, desktop; whatever you’ve got.

Being more specific, we’d ideally like to see experience with at least some of the following:

Strong front-end development skills – modern HTML/CSS/Javascript
PHP/MySQL, including frameworks such as Codeigniter, or CMS platforms like WordPress
Other web frameworks – for instance, Django, or Ruby on Rails
Basic Linux system administration, including a working knowledge of Apache
Actionscript
iOS development (Objective-C/Cocoa)
Version control tools – git by preference, or svn (but the principle is what matters).

However, this is a junior position, and as such is less about what you know and more about what you can pick up quickly. You won’t be on your own. If you don’t fulfil all of the above criteria, but you’ve got bags of potential (rather than bags of experience), we’d still like to hear from you.
