Following on from a conversation I had with a member on here earlier, I'm just curious to know what you guysgive to your clients when you finish project.

Do you just upload their site totheir hosting account and invoice them or do you give them physical media with their site on? What literature do you give them?

Do you give them any user guides to help them use the system you've used?

Etc, etc

They don't get anything until their site is fully paid for - sounds harsh but it's just easier that way imo.

Don't bother sending out Cds as if putting on their hosting they have a copy already. If I'm hosting myselfg, they can get a zipped copy if required.

Guides wise, I've written a small document explaining how to use the basic CMS and some good SEO practices E.g. things they can do themselves. I just stick on an hour's charge for these.

Other than that, send over the usuall stuff such as admin area passwords, links to stats etc.

as above, I never give anything over until payment in full.

I write a quick CMS guide if they have not paid for technical support.

I don't normally send the files as I host for my clients but probably will make it practice from now on.

I also get a website sign off signature on a form.

Normally I give my clients 3-4 months and follow up with a courtersy call to see how things are.

I got a 400gsm presentation file the client gets with a copy of the contract, invoice, passwords and ftp details. A "how to' guide if its CMS or Shop based (insert product name here), SD card with videos for said instructional and a hard backup for them to keep off site or off server as per most online business insurance requirements.

Refer a friend vouchers are handy and normally 5-10 business cards

Quite an impressive bunch of stuff there. We're looking to offer something similar but won't be putting instructional videos in, just a backup of the website. I do like the idea of the refer a friend vouchers though

I'll upload to the live domain as soon as the invoice is paid. In terms of giving them the media / code. Not a chance. The code is mine and doesn't belong to the client!

What's the point in withholding it? Unless a client is hosting with you, they could just download the backup themselves.

I only started to do the video because of some real "smart" clients I had / have. Gives them something to fall back on after an hours lesson.

It's definitely something I'll look into as it's not a bad idea. I got my quote for my SD Card labels today so that's all good.
