Currently working to re-brand a local hair salon, part of which is to design a new logo.

This is what I've come up with. Is it obvious it's supposed to be a scissors? Can you tell it says "t h c"? Those two areas can be tweaked, but is the idea itself a good one? What does it say to you?

They're trying to change their image to market themselves better toward women aged 25-40 and want a classier image. Their current logo and colours used are very saturated pinks and oranges, which to me seems more oriented with a younger market, hence the redesign.

Be interesting to read your feedback, thanks :)

Tom

I really like the T+H scissors (even though the "T" is not so immediate), while the "C" is a little bit anonymous: maybe move it up or down and make it look like a curl or whatever? I would also try something different for the "thehaircentre" tag.
Bye!

It looks like 'the hair centre' is one word.

I really like it, it does give an air of being aimed at the markets you mention.

I do think the t could be clearer...

Hi Tom.

I'd separate the words slightly and kern them manually.

As mentioned above, seperate the words 'the hair centre' slightly as currently all one word is a tad hard to read.

Love the logo concept, although not sold on the font for the h and c <_<

I'd agree with that.

"Is it obvious it's supposed to be a scissors?"

yes I believe so, although for a split second it was reminiscent of a small dog with big ears.

"Can you tell it says "t h c"? "

not quite, this may need tweaking.

This is in addition to the other suggestions. Some slight tweaks required overall and you should be ok. But again, like the concept.

Just an update, thanks for all the advice.

After talking to a few other people, it seemed everyone agrees the 't' isn't that obvious, so I've addressed that (I think) and altered the h and the c, too.

I'm still not 100% convinced and I think it needs further tweaking, but what do you think?

Thanks :)

it looks like tnc to me. Have you thought of making the scissor part come off the h upper bit only?

me thinks the h is wrong too.... can you not reduce the curve on the n part of the h and make the h length taller.

sorry that description was poor :friends:

I don't like it. It's overdone, overkill. This is a hair salon, nobody is gonna go there because of the logo.

The best logo for a hair salon would surely be a logo that will look best on their shop front. I can't really picture this tacked onto a shop front looking particularly great.

Why not just keep it simple? A simple logo will look much, much better and professional on a shop front.

Mike I hear what you say about the simple approach and you make a valid point, but that example you showed us is what I would expect to see on a shop selling bathrooms, power showers and jacuzzi's.

I actually don't think it fit's the subject matter very well.

You're actually illustrating my point further. It doesn't really matter what the logo is because hair salons trade on reputation, customer satisfaction etc - not their branding.

That's why I think keeping it simple is the better idea, because it will be easier to recreate on a shop front, and easier for people to see when they walk down the street.

But beyond keeping it incredibly simple, I don't think the logo actually matters a tremendous amount for businesses like these.

Here's an example below. Took me all of 2 minutes.

I guarantee you it will:

  • Work just as well for the business
  • Be painless and cheap to produce for the store signage
  • Scale for any application. Work in black and white.
  • Be locally instantly more recognisable than the OP's logo.

I think scissors are kinda overused for hair salons.

:D

Personally I think "THC" is funny enough.... let's not go down that road though.

I liked very much this logo, it's great and professional.
I think the "h" looks pretty much like a "n" too, and the "t" is not well definite.
The scissor remembers me a rabbit sometimes too.
But besides that, I really liked the logo, and I think with a slighty bigger approach it will be perfect.

i like the idea, it's quiet interesting but personally i don't like scisors on logos, they scare me (not only on your logo of course)

I remember reading this thread when I was about 6yrs old. Nice to see it's still going strong.

I think the OP will have made the logo, shop sign, brochures, business cards, flyers and pavement sign by now..

I did hear I rumour the business folded last century but I'm not 100% on that
