Following on really from a thread started by Jason Dexter, we are looking for ways to basically get our name out there and one thing I've been thinking a lot about is doing voluntary work for charities in the UK.

Is this something anyone here has every considered? Has it worked for you if you have tried it? Obviously, the biggest advantage would be if those charities then recommended us to other people, etc, but it would also help build a larger portfolio, etc.

Any thoughts welcome :)

From an SEO point of view you have a huge amount of potential here.

Charity websites are usually very authoritative and usually have a high PR.

When I've done minor work for them in the past they have said I can place a link from their homepage to me. So, that 20 minute update to their news system in return for a PR 5 link, with anchor text of your choice is suddenly a good deal.

This is probably the most brilliant and effortless way to start your portfolio whatever category you are into.
