Run sfc /scannow, do a full virus check then disable your antivirus (don't forget to enable it again when you're done).

Might be worth biting the bullet and upgrading to 7, unless you're waiting for 8.

Ok did that but then get 'sfc /scannow found corrupt files but was unable to fix some of them'

Advises me where the problem lays [C:\Windows\Logs\CBS] i try to open the text file and get 'Access is denied' (admin rights i think).

Im always baffled by why i should be denied access to ANY part of MY OWN system by something stating 'NOT ENOUGH ADMINISTRATION RIGHTS'.. It's MY computer lol.

And how do you run 'Administration' thingy anyway?

I know how to run some programs as administrator, that's a straightforward right click.

Computers man, 1 man's heaven another man's hell :-)

Whack your original install disc (or flash drive) in, and try sfc /scannow from an elevated command prompt. Problem is, any commands run from that prompt are run with the same rights as the prompt was opened with. It's actually the best approach to security, doing everyday stuff with as few privileges as you can and only using Admin privs for tasks that need them - look at *nix based systems, for example. Running with low privs means that any malicious code activated by your user session (for example, a drive-by download or zero-day exploit) only runs with limited permissions instead of having full admin access, even if your antivirus doesn't catch it.

Pro tip: quickest way is to hit the Win key and type cmd as if you were going to open a standard prompt, but hit [ctrl]+[shift]+[enter] instead of just [enter].

Thanks but sounds like a lot of work for something seemingly insignificant [maybe].

I mean what is the service pack for anyway!
