Within the space a few weeks this generated a lot of traffic for that individual post (which has now been removed) - we are talking what I'd call a significant amount of uniques, within a very short period of time for a single blog post.
What did i do to achieve this on the seo front? Well nothing out the ordinary - normal header tags to section the article, links to the company in question and links to some sites where the company had been mentioned. I didn't pay much attention to keywords, I just wrote it normally, ensuring it was very factual and clear.
My advice here, to get some traffic for your blog is to write something that will attract some sort of response from people. In my case it was a review of a bad experience I had with a company. However, it would have also been something equally as controversial such as your opinion for example.
I did literally no SEO on this post. I found backlinks, within a short period of time, came easily. Looking at why it ranked so well for the company name in question is fairly easy from a baclink point of view - I actually got a people referencing the review on some well know review sites (these links have now been removed weirdly) and links from other web related forums.
So, for some quick results, write something controversial, that will atrract a response from your audience and hope it gets popular. Remeber when people starting linking to your article without you asking, you're getting essentially free seo.
I'm sure if the post in question was left up, it would have only become more popular. It's sad I can't monitor the results going forward
