Envato have added a stock imagery site to their network - PhotoDune

Looks quite good to me and they aren't charging a small fortune for print quality images which should save me a few quid!

It's got more files than any of their other marketplaces. And it's only like a month old. That's insane!

Total marketplace items : 366, 732

Their extended license covers merchandising, and sale on the other marketplaces, which is pretty good for how little it costs.

they say it's Beta but also say "Our current featured author here on PhotoDune is sbotas who joined in August 2009, has a portfolio of 529 items for sale and has racked up 53 sales". Or is that just Beta speak?

Probably across the whole network not just the site.

Looks good though. May be the answer to the frankly terrible state of stock photo sites.

The join date is when you joined the marketplace network.

The public launch was august (according to wiki) so maybe it was a soft launch or private beta?

There's no way in hell you launch a Beta and in a matter of days amass all that content.

What's more likely is that Envato contacted dozens of artists, photographers etc in advance and formed up their content before they launched. They've probably been accumulating content for the past year. Either that or the accounts are actually Envato staff and Envato has brought in the content from elsewhere.

It is actually the sensible thing to do, as you launch with your content rather than launching then waiting for people to submit content.

Edit: 40,000 of their files come from one guy.
