Hi guys.

I am doing a redesign of my Aikido club website. I wanted to go for a tonal colour design as I think it fits the whole martial arts idea well. I like my design but I would like some of you more experienced designers to help me tweak it if you think improvements could be made.

Thanks guys.

Aikido eh? Cool.

At the risk of offending tons of people who could effectively kick my butt, I'd have to say the site isn't very engaging.

I realise you have gone for a black and white theme but the homepage does nothing to make me want to explore the site further.

I'll try and think of some suggestions of what you might do to improve it and get back to you soon.

Can I be really blunt? The whole black and white theme isn't working in my opinion.

Try and inject some colour in there. As hinted at in the above comment, Aikido should have a more energetic feel, more energy, more life. The site just seems like a contradiction.

Thanks guys this is what I needed. Wasn't sure if the black theme was working. I guess the general consensus is that it isn't.

Luckily I also have a clean white layout as a backup so will push on with that. Indeed Aikido is all about energy and spirit so I will try and inject some color into it.

Will put up my new design within a few days.

Cheers

While the overall design is a bit on the dark side, I do like the use of the rounded corners and the transparancy in combination with the background image. What I would like to add to the previous comments is that if you want to engage your visitors more, I would consider reorganizing the sidebar content have the events and the location map higher up in the hierarchy. Perhaps you can add a gallery with photos of recent events?

I liked it and different to all the other aikido clubs out there!

My issue is with the header (navigation) and the footer it should match the body with the way you have the clear boxes going over them, also if your going to use a background image get it to scale 100% and change size based on the browser using css, not a fan of the feathered effect.

The photo in the body could do with being larger, also its a good idea to use some images that are less aggressive to get people into the class I found that when I designed my own martial arts sites. Although I've never had the pleasure wish your instructor all the best from me! OSU

Hi guys,

sorry for taking so long to rework this idea. I have gotten away from the previous black and white theme as I decided it was a bit depressing and made me feel a bit claustraphobic when I went back and looked at it. I wanted something clean and modern looking. I have tried to inject some energy and spirit into the design by using some blue and a nice background image which to me represents the spirit and energy of Aikido.

Please tell me what you think.

The link to the old version no longer works. This is the latest version of the website.
