hi guys

for the past 5-6 years ive ran my own music forum (dancing jesus) that i hosted on my own server which i paid for monthly. i never had too much trouble and for that reason ive never shopped around since. it was the cheapest at the time, but recently, for legal reasons my forum was shut down and due to no backup it is lost forever. my account with this company was also cancelled and so i no longer have a server/hosting.

now i plan to resurrect the forum and need some hosting. before it was shutdown it had 11,000+ members and a strong active community on a phpbb forum. ive never been the most technical person and always had a "right-hand" man helping me out with server stuff...but if it can be helped i dont want a server...just some hosting with enough space/traffic to run a potentially large active forum.

back in the day i used to get hosting with CPanel and stuff. i dont know what would be best for me nowadays.

all help appreciated

thanks

Hi Kaneomak

Something of that size, you might find problematic on many shared hosts, but we have several 10,000+ member communities on our shared servers, with zero aggrevation at all.
Your welcome to give us a whirl, and not have to worry about server admin stuff, let us deal with that :-)

Our shared resource limits are very high though, as our servers arre very undersold, so 11,000 members wouldnt realy cause any grief, unless you had some god awful chat-room software going nuts, as has happened before, but phpbb is ok, as are vbulletin and our new favourite, invision power board :-)

Give us a shout if you have any queries...

Our current hosting plans on our website have also been changed too, better pricing, bigger allocations, for facebook fans :-)

All of our hosting is cpanel hosting, and we wouldnt dream of shutting somebody down without getting in touch with them first, normally by telephone if it was that urgent...

Looking at you requirements you will still require a dedicated servers. And almost every hosting provider now offers cpanel so that wont be a problem. The only problem I see why your forum had legal issues?

Somebody who had some FTP space on my server had a folder containing lots of mp3s of unreleased albums etc....which apparently you could easily find through google. As well as this, my forum had a section where people shared links to albums and even though they were not hosted by myself, the fact that both the forum and folder of mp3s were on the same server, it was enough to be shut down.

My plan now is to start the forum again but i won't have a music downloads section. I wouldn't have even been interested in starting again if it wasnt for lots and lots of members requesting it was put back up. There's too much of an active community to just lose I guess.

Also, because I'm starting from scratch I surely won't need my own server, right? At least not for a while. 11,000 members shouldn't be reached for some time.

at the minute I'm thinking about possibly going with hostgator or dreamhost. Anybody had any experiences with either.
