I have had several of my sites "hacked" by malware scripts. Are there any software programs to prevent this?
Thanks

It's a bit like saying how long is a piece of string.

It all depends on how your site was hacked as their are a million different ways to do this thus there are a million different ways to help prevent it.

Are these sites coded from scratch or based on another framework such as Joomla, Wordpress etc.

The only way to really do it is to find the infection and research how to stop it. There's no easy software solution. You have to figure out how it got in and learn how to code to prevent such attacks.

Double check your own PC for infection it could well be that something you have downloaded something that contained a virus. Some older web browsers were also vulnerable to exploits as well so it may of been someplace you visited that caused the problem.

NB: If your PC is using Windows XP then your antivirus may also of been infected as most users run using the default 'admin' settings so once inside the virus can go anywhere it likes. So may need to perform a scan of the hard drive(s) using a CD-ROM boot disc like Puppy or Ubuntu linux to start the PC up.

Once you KNOW that your PC is virus free re-upload your entire site to server.

Like sogo said, you need to check your PC, expecially if you dont have any software already to protect from viruses

2 good programs i recommend

malwarebytes anti malware - is free, easy to use, actually works, the malware database is updated regular

comodo firewall - its free, runs in the background, if it detects anything odd like a app/executable thats never ran before then it will alert you before it can do any damage, itll stop trogans, tell you when a new program is running, tell you when a program is connecting to the internet for the first time (usually the virus would be sending stuff to a database, eg your private info), and so on, i havent had a single virus since ive had it and i used to always get them (stupid googleleads double click thing)

Malwarebytes is good as is AVG (free edition), SpybotSD as are several others, Norton also have a huge selection of free removal tools to target specific threats.

NB: if you cannot get into the Norton/ Symantec website or any reputable Antivirus providers website such as AVG then you have a been infected with the 'conficker' virus and you must get the specialist removal tool from Norton using a different PC.

DON'T get it from anywhere else on the web using the infected machine.

lol ive had that nb before, pain in the arse, although i wasnt going to pay for them anyway (im a tight **** hah)

I can see why people set up scamming viruses etc but i hate it the way people set up pointless viruses that just p*ss people off but the people who made the viruses gain nothing from it
