I have just finished my portfolio site. I am looking for somewhere cheap to host and to buy the domain name.

I am Looking for
 • Email
 • PHP 5
 • MySQL 5
 • cPanel or PHPmyAdmin
 • Unlimted Domains hosted

How much would this normally Cost?

It depends on how much space and bandwidth you need.

If you are in the UK then a free .co.uk domain name can be aquired from http://www.gbbo.co.uk/
it's a project run by British Telcom. They will pay the two year registration fee for you, after 2 years it's up to you to pay if you want to keep it. [if you are outside the UK you may still be able to swing it. There's no paperwork but they do like to telephone and ask how you are getting on mobile numbers are acceptable...]

They do provide free hosting via Google, but frankly it's bloody awful and unuseable unless you're big on Java or Python, there's no FTP either.

A better solution for those on a low budget for hosting is X10 Hosting, open a free account with them then see this thread and follow the links.. They are one of the few web hosting providers that will allow a TLD to be used on a free account.

If you going to start with your first website you donīt need very much, you can start with 1 GB web storage, 10GB data transfer, I recommend host-nic.com, they have cheaper plans , domains costs are lower than other sites, and they have .co.uk , and others common domain.

i find tsohost a great hosting company. You can get the lite package with a .co.uk domain for Ģ20odd per year and the domain is valid for 2 years, so the second year costs are Ģ14.99 (just for the hosting).

Be aware that you do get what you pay for.
Cheap hosting will be slow and feature lacking. Even if it is your first site, consider spending a little bit more.

If it is for a portfolio site then the last thing you want is cheap hosting. It could turn out to be dog slow and end up putting potential clients off with endless waiting or downtime.

Invest in a solid hosting package and the reliability will soon pay for itself.
