Hi Folks,

Had a good read round the site and loved what i have seen so registered and was hoping I may find some help.

I have recently launched a classified ad site that will be UK based, i have the domain and site up and running but the site could do with a bit tarting up, possibly some small scripts added such as facebook like button etc. I am happy to take direction from you guys also as to what is achievable

I know there are a few classified sites out there already and some realy big players, and i am not expecting to make my fortune from this. but i would like to offer people a good exerience and perhaps something different whils i myself have some fun mainting it

My budget is not huge as I am not expecting to charge anyone for placing adds for quite a while and this is more a fu proect than something i would expect to make my fortune. Don't get me wrong in todays current climate in the UK with more and more peole selling on line and looking for a budget there is definately a market for another player.

Feel free to have a look at www.swagblag.co.uk and give me your thoughts and if you can help? Go easy on me, i know its not perfect or close to being perfect

Many thanks for reading and keep up the very good work

For a first time visitor, it's hard to work out what it's about. The header images are a botched mix of unrelated images, you need something much more defined. A guy wearing a flourescent jacket, a bag with "sale" on it, cardboard boxes. The first thing that catches your eye is actually the Google ads and it puts you off immediately.

You need a much more defined logo, it's only after you scroll down and see the listing headings that it starts to make any sense. It all feels very unbalanced and thrown together. There are seven main sections, but nothing logical.

When you click on a specific ad it gets worse. Tiny description with comments (what's the point) and then contact the seller on the right but nothing is lined up or in any way logical.

I would simplify the whole site, there far too much that's irrelevant. Have a look a some of the other classified sites, you'll get a better idea, simple and to the point. And everything is there and makes sense as soon as you arrive on the page.

You probably got the face because it sounds like you are asking for someone to do free work for you (or really cheap work), and that annoys people around here.

You'd be best served by:
  • Posting your budget. People will be able to assess if they can help you within your price range (or at all).
  • Posting this in the review section and just asking for free advice
  • Or, if your budget is too small, getting a bigger budget (saving, fundraising, etc.) and hiring someone to do the work

I'm not saying you are asking for free stuff, but in general keep in mind that even if your budget is low and you don't plan on making money from it, our design expertise, ability and time costs something to us, so we don't tend to give it away very often.

If you are able to do some of the work yourself you'd probably benefit from a designer giving you some criticism/feedback.
