I've read that these 2 tags both carry equal weight for seo purposes but in my opinion it looks a little spammy when you see keywords in bold type face scattered over your site. So will they still carry the same weight for seo if I applied a class to them that turned them back to normal?

If you have bold text code on the rendered page and restyle it from within css I am certain google would still see it as bold and weight it accordingly. Only way to be sure though would be to run some tests. The weighting though of bold text is small though and I'm not sure testing is worth it.

I would be inclined to look at the bold text as a design feature, which if done well can enhance the overall text look. The key is knowing when to stop it from looking like your spamming for SEO.

Ok, well I mentioned making a design feature of it. The bold text in the various links near the top of the page look perfectly ok and normal.

The bold text in the bulleted list looks a bit odd on it's own. If this were me, I'd either bold every other one or leave them and bold some of the phrases in the main text.

Have you tried using the css styling to unbold text? I couldn't see any sign of it in the source code.

No I haven't applied a class to reverse them yet as wanted to be sure it wouldn't counteract the tags and render them useless or worse.

Thanks for the tips I'll try those out and see how it looks +1
