Helloo,
I'm hoping to start an actual web design portfolio for a change, and I'm considering what domain name to use.
My full name is Charlotte Godley, which seems a little long and mouthy - obviously as godley isn't a very popular surname charlottegodley.com and charlottegodley.co.uk are both free, and they make sense...I'm just considering whether other alternatives, such as:

chargod.com/co.uk
charlottedesigns.com

would be better, or do you think charlottegodley.com/co.uk would be adequate?

It makes me think of Pokémon! "What? Charizard is evolving! Into CHARGOD!!!!!!!!!"

To be honest, I don't see anything wrong with just going for charlottegodley. It's really not particularly long or complicated, it makes it more personal, and it's pretty easy to remember. "Gimmicky" names or abbreviation can be a bit polarising (read: irritating and not necessarily that memorable). That's my opinion, anyway!

If you do go for the "chargod" option and decide to make it Pokemon-themed (because, let's face it, it's an AMAZING idea), I may have to demand a 10% cut of all profits. Just saying.

Hi Charlotte,

I suppose it depends on what you're using it for. If it's purely for a portfolio then using your name makes the most sense as prospective employers will no doubt try and "google you" (man, that sounds wrong).

If you're looking to start a business and still deciding on what company name to use then it might be worth holding back a bit until you've given it more thought.

Branding also comes into play. I'm not sure how you could brand your name - and i'm sure a few religious sects might have something to say about you using the obvious!

Just a couple of things to think about.

Damn it, your name is GODLEY (although obviously slight different spelling but you get the gist), play around with it a bit!

Of course nothing wrong with the good ol' charlottegodley.co.uk

Lol I'm not a pokemon person :p
Okaaay not going for chargod being as I'm not a cleaning lady...
Pshh that's not fair, it's my surname, how can they get offended by that!

Hmm. Given what's been said here I think I'll just stick with my name, thanks for keeping me on the straight and narrow :p

Charlottedesigns is good because it you'll help a lot your SEO for the word "design".

Have you thought in a domain like .art ?
