I have built 2 sites during the past couple of years and I don't understand why I am seeing the results I'm getting. For example


Site 1:

• Has no keywords in the title tag its simply the company name followed by the word group.
  
• Has no meta description - not that it effect serp position I know
  
• No header tags what so ever
  
• The whole page fits on 31 lines of code

Site 2:

• Has 17 pages all hand written rich with original content about the subject
  
• Has a title tag with the keywords in it
  
• Has header tags only 1 h1

Site 1 comes top for my keyword phrase and site 2 comes 8th?

I'm trying to ascertain what are the biggest ranking factors:

Since the 22nd July:

The bounce rate for site 1 is 87.17% from 187 visits
The bounce rate for site 2 is 53.31% from 347 visits (better than its out performing site)

They both have the same number of backlinks although one of the back links for site 1 is from Globrix.com that links 1,895 times. That is the only thinkg I can see that is better than the site 2 but it seems this one factor out performs all the others by a mile.

Am I missing something?

It then, in theory, has 2,000 back links. It's not just one factor, its 2,000 factors.


Also, in terms of visitors, it could be down to Google's 'view before you click' thing (Cant for the life of me remember what it's called)

OK it seems for my site to do really well then I need to get listed on all property results pages that I can and the rest is for jostling for the odd position or three?

Hmmm sounds a bit unclear to me. Are the links to site 1 from relevant theme related sites?

Are all other factors the same on the two sites:
domain age
keyword density
ip
page load

Also, since when did Google start ignoring the meta description tag? Did I miss something? :-)

Ignored for ranking factors although important for click throughs.
