Hi I was wandering that how far social networking sites (FB, twitter, linkedin, stumbleupon etc.) can help in SEO? I mean does it really helps to generate traffic for the website?

Yes, its a great way of introducing yourself without spamming people. Let them find you!

I find that Twitter works well for me as it is simple and many people are using it for business rather than just a social network like facebook. However I have heard of people getting good results from other networking sites, such as Linkedin.

Give it a go, you got nothing to lose!

Pretty everyone i meet in real life who owns and runs their own business agrees that Twitter is the tool that has been most helpful for them.

Regarding SEO, well it'll give you link backs.

Even an automated feed of blog or news content sent out to social media helps create both traffic and the building of links, so in our experience the answer is yes. However as already said above, it works best with extra effort made to make manual posts and communications.
