Hey everyone! I'd just like to say hi and introduce myself briefly as I didn't see the point in a separate thread.

I wish to make a sports related webpage. I have experience with stuff like phpbb, vb and kusabax imageboards. But forum software is too bulky for what I want and imageboards are too primitive, ugly AND they are hard to moderate. What I am looking for is a script somewhere in between the two.

The important factors are it needs to be simple, light weight and user friendly! Preferably it should look good (think twitter stlye) I want people to come on my website and instantly see their team and start chatting. (The closest I have found is Xenforo... at least its a bit lighter weight).

I will have a splash page with custom graphics that short cut to each teams subforum. If you have any suggestions on scripts that would be great.

Your biggest problem with a lightweight solution is likely to be spammers. We have a very low profile board and still have to fight off at least 200 spam registrations PER DAY. What used to be done by spam emails now seems to be done via board messaging.

We currently use phpBB because our custom board was too much of an overhead (and was time-consuming and expensive to develop) But because of spam issues we are looking at v-Bulletin.

Never seen and encountered a forum with a Twitter-like theme but this idea of yours would be a blast if implemented in a forum site.

Another vote for vanilla. And I think there's a stopforumspam.org plugin for vanilla now, so you can wave goodbye to spam accounts.

Failing that, my second choice would be SMF. It's probably a bit heavy for your requirements, but there are some minimal themes which strip away a lot of the clutter. And of course, the spam protection from sfs.org plugin is second to none.
