Hey guys, im a student at the moment, ive done one year at college and decided that college really isnt for me and decided i wanted to take up a webdesign course, so looking around i decided to go more practical and a local company was offering an apprenticeship which lasts 4 years, Im not new to Dreamweaver by no stretch although my english skills do lack sometimes...
So my problem is now, i need a new Rig, Ive currently got a HP system, although ive just converted it over to Ubuntu, and lost my Dreamwaver capabilities....
so now i need to get another rig for Dreamweaver while im at my apprenticeship, They are providing a computer, but i would also like to work on smaller projects at home.... What comes Ready to run? Or where can i get a Legit copy of windows from? I have the codes but everyone keeps giving me windows 7, I only have the codes on the side of my machine for Vista 64Bit home....

There are plenty of code editors that run on Linux, see http://en.wikipedia....rce_code_editor for a list
You can buy Windows directly from Microsoft, or your local computer supplier.

I'm confused, you're getting a new PC?
Buy OEM Windows 7 if you are building it yourself, or it will come pre-bundled with it if it's store bought.
Or if you continue to use Linux yeh there are a few choices. Aptana is nice but doesn't feel quite as good in Linux. Eclipse is also another choice.

I would suggest to get at least 4 gigs of ram. Thats the only important thing that come to mind.
Go with 8 if u can afford it. Our coders are constantly not happy with how fast everything works when you have 5 browsers opened with 20 tabs in each + dreamweaver + photoshop + shtloads of other stuff.
They use windows7 though, so that might be the root of the performance leak as well.

Why you don't buy a Mac Mini or some mac machine? The OS will be free for use. You can use Xcode for free to code your web sites (if you don't have money for Coda! or Expresso), you don't have to spend money on antivirus software, expensive office packets and more.
I bought my Mac mini this spring with 4GB RAM, and recently i updated it to 8GB of RAM and new, faster hdd with 7200rpm. Its a lot faster now. I also bought a Adobe Photoshop CS5 license for 700$ (directly from Adobe's web site), Coda!(99$) and Expresso(79$) and MS office (but you can buy iWork which is cheaper).
After I switched to Mac I noticed that my performance improved about 2x.
