Google have launched a beta tool Called "Google Blog Search" as the name suggests it allows you to specifically search content within peoples Blogs. This is good for finding information that's specific to a subject.

Checkit out here: http://blogsearch.google.com/

Hi Ben,

That is brilliant! You can search for all sorts, one thing you can search for which is VERY cool is work.

Most of the work is up to date to, so you will be one of the first to gain attention from the person who has posted.

Why would you want to find out information not specific to a subject? :)

I'm glad. It's been a great way of improving your SERPs for a while, and hopefully this will only help to continue the positive results of this trend! Many of my customers are never happier than when they spend all night blogging away - it's a bit beardy, but they end up getting referral and search engine traffic out of it - which is probably why they're all richer than me :)

seems quite odd to me, what difference does it make if the info you want is on a blog or not? And what do they define as a blog? I use WP for lots of my sites but they're sites not blogs..

I am with Steve Q here. The definition of a blog is not clear. As Steve says lots of developers are now using Word Press for full sites, Blogs can rank highly in serps anyway so is there a need for an additional index? that said clients do enjoy working blogs and with Caffeine the publishing of new content is actively encouraged by Google.
You can make some gains for SEO using blogs.

Hope this isn't OT but I was a bit shocked recently to see a blog entry I made in WP appear near the top of Google search results virtually immediately. It didn't stay there for very long though.

Why does it matter, it already might be appearing in the normal google search, i.e. all the content from the blogs.

Interesting. The results are very recent posts, so it tends to show up to date content. It's kind of the opposite of having an old site that has become "entrenched" in google.

I never knew about a blog search. I wonder how it can be less redundant then it sounds.
