Cheers

not my cup of tea but seems they are just calling it '5' to steal a march on other browsers?

I've updated my FireFox to 5.0. Have the impression that it works faster than 3.6.

Zed - Does seem like it has updated to keep with the trend, their isnt like a major overhall so i don't get why its got a new version name, even if they have fixed "1000 bugs".

Lev - it does seem to be quicker than 3.6 and also abit better than 4 but not that much better

Pandadoodle - sorry didn't see your post! but yeah i think it is all just bug fixes, but saying that i quite like the new interface it got in version4 so i can't really imagine that changing too much in the next few versions, maybe they will just go for upgrading it's speed and proformance and working on bugs, still my favourite browser atm though.

I think googles netbook using chrome is out, safari is in no doubt due for a change with mac osx lion out next month, i.e (well thats i.e) and with all the problems they had with vs 4-4.5.0+ I think a straight fix to 5 was a good move, 2 weeks there will be an update anyway I bet...

I agree about the google netbooks been out having an effect on web browsing (i fancy one of them netbooks myself to replace my windows one!) and same with the new Mac osx out which will bring a diffrence to safari and the only time i ever use IE is to check sites i've built for any faults. But i think your right their will be an update again probalys, i do remeber reading that Mozilla were going to update Firefox more often abit like what google do with chrome?

I missed that. I don't think Thunderbird gets updated as much as it used to thats why I've switched back to Mail, but I read up on a new mail client taking the mac by storm (can't find the link now) but i think its called spider or sphere or something...

I tend to use a browser capture to check cross platform these day, although its very rare I have to check that myself as I no longer do front end coding I only look after once the design is built to sign off on it, saves messing around with various browsers then again.. Safari, Firefox, Camino and Opera installed on here lol

I am not big fan of Firefox, but I can't spot big differences between 4 and 5. Interface looks the same-chrome and opera hybrid.

Not much has changed interface wise on the mac but I don't use it that often to spot any "little gems" it might have

Pandadoodle - I'm still running Thunderbird but i also use Windows Live Mail and Outlook express got it all going on! But thuderbird also had an update when i booted up this morning, although again nothing much seems to of changed. And good point about the google netbooks! although whos dosent have Wi-Fi or a 3G Dongle these days?

ayoungh - They do look intresting their also claming these amazing boot up times, shame its now a smiliar OS to Win7 or Mac or even Linux, but the whole it all been online and using Apps is a pritty cool thing i think.

I do agree, Online is a much better way as your data is always backed up and I guess most servers now days, especially cloud uses raid to duplicate data incase of harddrive failure. This is good :)

It is good indeed, although your going to get people saying your data is out their for hackers to try and get, which is true but i can see google already been aware of that situation and not letting it happen unlike other big companies! Anyhow this is getting a bit off topic so back to FireFox!

Anyone else got any opinions on 5 or just firefox in general?

Mozilla have caught the Google Chrome bug and plan on having a much quicker update schedule.
At the end of the day version number became meaningless long ago. It's up to the company to decide what version number to use no matter what changes may have taken place under the hood.

Every time Google changes a menu option in Chrome the whole browser jumps a couple of version numbers lol :p

It's mostly performance tweaks and support for CSS3 animations. Because of the faster release schedule you're going to see less of a jump in features between major versions.

Mike - I'll be honest i've never really took notice to the number version chrome is i've just always called it chrome! Where as with IE and FF i've always known them by number.

Renaissance-Design - I seen about the CSS3 updates and maybe with the quicker releases we will see more support for the likes of HTML5 and CSS3 which can't be a bad thing!

Panda - I might have to start a new thread to see your views on these lol, but leave netbooks out of this they're great ;) honest!

Same here.
I'm on the Chrome developer channel anyway which would throw a spanner in the works any way!
