I'd expect it to be safari as that is the default browser for a mac but wasn't sure on compatability when using safari or google chrome. Or are there any other browsers out there which I wouldn't know about?

Safari and Chrome are on par. Chrome doesn't bloat as much.
Opera and Firefox and a Google will find you plenty more smaller ones.

Okay well I use safari on my mac anyway and it doesn't cause any problems so i'm guessing it's all I need. :)

Safari is great on the mac, HOWEVER I do use firefox for anything with flash or animated .gifs safari just does not seem to get on with them and thats using a macbook with 4gb ram or a powermac with 16gb...

If you want a list of most common mac browsers here you go Camino, Chrome, Firefox, Safari and Stainless

I use chrome. It never crashes and basically has nothing wrong. Also chrome gives you the most amount of display, if that makes sense.

I use Chrome. I used Safari for a while but missed Chrome, it 'seems' better but that's purely subjective.

Chrome's actually one of the worst browsers out about now, maybe good for developers though.

I'd say either IE10 or Safari are the best known ones

I like Chrome. It has decent plugins (Unlike Safari), great design (unlike Firefox), doesn't feel bloated (Unlike them both), it's faster for me and I never need to update it!

Dev tools are great too! :)

The default one? I use Safari sometimes rather than Chrome, but when I'm on a Mac I always choose it.

Er?

IE10 hasn't even been released, except for a consumer preview. So I don't know how you can say it's the "best known browser"?!

And to suggest Chrome is one of the worst browsers out there is just laughable. Care to explain why? It's slick, simple to use, extremely fast, has a fantastic rendering engine, brilliant developer tools, great extensions, boots up lightning fast....the list goes on.

I don't particularly care that it can 3D transform things, it sucks arse at rendering text.

Actually, recently published results show that on a mac Chrome is actually the fastest web browser, and IE is not available on the mac and v10 has not even been released yet.
Also, the only people that hate Chrome are those that love having three billion retard-bars and hate minimalism.
