It'll be interesting to see how that one pans out, no doubt Ebay are after Magento's lucrative Enterprise customer base.

How long before Ebay rename Magento as X-commerce and turn it into commercial open source?

indeed. My other immediate thought was paypal and how they'd be trying to do something with that along the way.

'paygent' has a certain ring to it ;) Seriously though they will certainly want to, and I hate to use this awful phrase, leverage some more transactions through paypal to recoup costs. Maybe some ebay/magento shops will appear?

Magento will become part of eBay's new X.Commerce group, whose mission is to create a vibrant developer ecosystem around what the company calls "an open commerce platform.

I hate eBay. They continually move the goalposts with their terms and conditions and squeeze every last penny from their customers.

I am not sure what eBay intends to do with Magento, but I suspect the results may not be as good as we all hope.

Ebay have been moving in on things for a while, I believe they purchased the "RedLaser" app (iPhone/android etc) a while back also?... could be with what must now be a very vast and large item database an interesting combination with magento and other aspects they can bring to the table.

Going to be interesting to see the first releases of x commerce :)

This is either going to be awesome or terrible.

Either eBay will pile in resources and explode it out. Giving us all eCommerce perfection wet dreams.

-or-

They will ebay-i-fy it. You'll only be able to use PayPal. It will turn into a giant buttoned kiddy-push-to-eCommerce system with terrible coding, terrible community and a really stinky air of cheapcheapcheap

EDIT: Oh sod I just noticed the posted date. Bloody necroed thread.
