Has anyone else noticed how over priced stock imagery and vector based objects are?

Some of the Rights-Managed imagery is absurdly priced, but that's just supply and demand. Big publications need top-quality imagery and often fight with their competitors for the best cover photos.
Normal Royalty-Free stock stuff is reasonably priced. It's kind of asinine for us to assume that another creative professional is going to part with their work for cheap or free. If you need something for a personal project iStock has some pretty affordable stuff and some of the bundle pricing places like ShutterStock aren't bad, and for projects where you need top of the line imagery you can just bill the client for it. You get what you pay for with stock imagery.

Totally agree. The value that these images add to you final product is generally more than you would pay for them. If it's not then you've chosen the wrong image and that is only your fault.

The client pays for a brilliant website, so they pay for brilliant images. You get what you pay for, yes you may pay a lot, but make sure you are getting a lot for it and it will add to the website more than what it costs.

Originate your own photography where you can, that's what we do. Great cost saving if you can afford the kit for it and it's something you can shoot yourself.
