I have started work on a project at the request of some people I know (and having conducted the market research there clearly is demand, due to the main competitor going offline in February and into administration last month)

The concept is to offer image hosting
The first service will be paid-for, but will eventually be free supported by advertising

I setup a test gallery using Coppermine Gallery which looks, from a users point of view, to meet my requirements

The members websites will take the format username.website.name
However username websites do not appear to interface very well, becoming a URL variable instead
I have asked on the Coppermine Gallery forum, but have been met by a message that my post (request for information) does not meet their requirements and so was removed?!?

If this is not possible, then I welcome any other suggestions or recommendations
Equally, if anyone is currently using anything similar I would be interested and the information would be gratefully received

As for the billing side, this would be performed by WHMCS with the websites created in WHM
This has been tested and works correctly and as intended (creating the username.website.name)

Something like http://www.wsngallery.com/ might serve as a good base for your project. It's got a shed load of features (try the admin demo), you can configure custom members URL's as well. It already has a base "sponsorship" payments system in place but I believe they had additional ecommerce options as downloads for customers.
