Hi im basically new to Flash, which explains why im asking this.

I read that older versions of AS are still useful even if you use AS3 preferably.My query is 'how the hell do you determine which version to use, can't i just use AS3, and all will be well?'

Just use AS3. There's practically no reason to worry about it.
