Roughly £4.5k, as this is top spec alienware machine, that excludes all the external equiptment (monitors, mice etc...)

you can custom build that rig for a hell of a lot cheaper then that. You dont even need dual GPU's

That you may however you don't have a next day 3 year warrantee on all labour and parts as well as remote support , also I don't know many rigs that run almost silent (3% fans) 22C at this spec and very rarely exceed 25C at full capacity on a microATX motherboard.

As for the warrantee, As I've said before elsewhere their support is impeccable, I've already had a complete replacement machine due to a small fault which could easily plague a custom build user who wouldn't have such an option.

Such a debate could be likened to that of why buy a Ferrari when an Ariel Atom is just as fast and a fraction of the cost?

that is true, however, the price is ridiculous. for cheaper, you can get the same spec at dino pc, with a 3 year warranty, free support, and 3 years parts and loabour.I personally dont like alienware, but if you like it then go ahead.

Also, i am considering buying an SSD for my OS, a 40GB one. Can anyone recommend a good quality one plz :)

40Gb? Stretch it a bit more to a 64Gb Crucial C300 - that way, when you upgrade to a motherboard with SATA3 you can move it over.

Thanks, and yes it's a U2-UFO. It's the first MM chassis I've used. I always wanted to try one out before but never seemed to get round to it. They aren't to everyone's tastes, but they are a modder's best friend purely for the space and layout.

I've never been a fan of cubes, but I've got to admit it looks pretty good to build in.

Yeah, they can look pretty boring sometimes, and their size can definitely be an issue too. I built an acrylic cube, with aluminium framework, from scratch a few years ago, and then moved on to the UFO from there. I'm ready for a change with the chassis, and am thinking about a more compact rig this time.

Thats my desktop, sometimes I design/develop on a laptop though. I used to game on this desktop but normaly use the xbox now

Processor: AMD Quad Core Phenom II X4 965
Motherboard: AMD 770 and SB710 Chipset Motherboard
Memory: 2 x 2Gb PC-10666 Memory (4Gb)
HDD(s): 500GB Western Digital
Video Card: Nvidia 9800GT
Monitor: 19" Phillips
OS: Windows 7 Pro 64-bit
PSU: 550W (not sure on make)

I did have a 800W PSU but it was overkill and producing a lot of noise/heat so I got the 550W.
