I'm new so I only got to see a few hours of the old design. I like this new one better though :D

and on both PCs and with a 2.5Mb connection there always seems to be a jitter when loading the page. Top section loads, slight stall and then the rest of the page.

I cant open the drop down navagation (the arrow next to forums) in IE8 sorry to say!

Love the pastel colours and the new logo thing in the left corner, still feel a bit funny about the logo being in the right as some1 mentioned before

overall its alot better though :) good work!

Easy, I really like the new logo. As for the montage of 'Cool' icons etc I think it's okay... the rest of the site like the buttons and icons (that remained the same) look great. Looks more welcoming and warm now, it doesn't seem to be to different in terms of the user interface so it shouldn't be to hard adjusting to this new layout. Nice improvement.

Great redesign, like that a lot.

Only thing that doesn't seem right to me is the logo on right hand side - it doesn't look balanced to me.

As I'll only ever be using this forum in FF or Chrome I won't bother pointing out any IE bugs.

i personnally think the top left image might be too distracting. also the text on the posts is too similar to the backgorund colour. When you scroll down a good bit it all looks very bland.

not sure if this is related to the new layout or is a quirk of how the information is updated but at the bottom of the page I see

Time Now: Feb 23 2011 06:12 PM
Last Visit: Feb 12 2011 12:11 PM

how is the Last Visit updated? Seeing as I'm logged on most days it doesn't make much sense?

it's possible but I can't test at the moment and got bored looking at the documentation. I believe it IS used as a driver for the View New Content link.

Thanks for the feedback and bugs! I think with IE8 it may be a case of using "noconflict" with the jQuery...

Regarding contrast, I may jus need to darken the font more and perhaps incorporate a bottom border as a finisher...

I'll have a play :)

wow...just wow. Just came on it, first time in a while, and i saw it. Nice job ben, custom template or premade?

Thanks very much, it was custom made.

Really Well Done Ben. As said within all the comments above, great to free a fresh lick of paint on the walls.

Lastly the Briefcase and InDesign Logo's are a bit odd but whatever eh? ;O) Kudos to the Dribbble, HTML5 Logo and Like button's.... Very contemporary.

I'm really looking forward to seeing the new changes soon.

Well done!

Thanks very much, I think you've seen every design incarnation the forum has had right from the Lime Green and Brown! - Seems miles away from that now :) - Briefcase icon was added as we have a business/legal/marketing section so it was used as a representation of those. InDesign, admittedly not as common as the other tools, but still used for various print based projects, plus we do have designers on here too! :)

You're right about seeing every reincarnation of the site. This is certainly the best - by a long way too.

Seeing the posts regarding IE I'm sure glad not to be using it. Not sure how comfortable you are with speaking about it but whats the top three browsers used to access the site?

Just realised that this is my third incarnation of WDF since joining up. (under a different username at first - Ben is it possible to merge these?).
Must say this is the most fitting style as well as the best looking.

Congrats Ben.

I do have one comment. The title section of the forums Like "The Web Designer Forum Community" & "Web Development" etc

It seams a little lost, I really have to look to see it, maybe it needs to be a little darker, it just blends in a little with the background.

Just me though!

If it hasn't already been said, the background messes up when users (like me) style their profiles :p. I don't think much can be done for it though apart from disabling that feature.

I like the new design though :)

No problem, that's added to the task list to darken the text a bit, thanks for suggestion :)

Yes, unfortunately so, the masthead graphic was absolutely huge as a transparent .PNG 32 - and .PNG 8 - was just such poor quality I didn't bother and used a .jpg.

So because of this, cust BG's arn't going to work so well for profiles, I think i'll just have to remove the option altogether (For now) - until a suitable solution is available.

Cheers for that.

Appreciate that Tobes, yes for years have been using a standard template with a poor excuse for a logo change, so thought it deserved it's own identity! - Glad you like it. :)

Hi Ben, just a couple of things which are niggling really.

The "Web Design Forum" in the navigation, sometimes you have to wiggle mouse over it to pick up a link, not sure why, i am using chrome incase its a bug in that.

There is 1 design thing also.

The #user_navigation{} needs to go to the right slightly, it doesnt line up. i know this is because of the shadow effect but surely a little css would make it right slightly.

Just niggling points which dont mean anything but with having such a good design it flaws it a little :)

And i agree with an earlier comment about having the balls to redesign a site that has so many critics in the same field! haha.

I just don't know but for some reason I think that the theme color isn't attracting.
Less important info and important info is all in the same color (dull).

First time surfing here, I have trouble updating my profile. Then I saw that light green button on the top right corner of the page "Edit my Profile".

I do suggest to use a darker color for buttons and important information such as the post title. Apart from it, everything else looks just nice!

Congratulation.

P/S: Why don't you create another competition on designing a logo for WDF? That could be a very interesting and fun activity. I could sponsor one of the price if you like :)
