I am sure its not illegal to just take photos of cars when you are out and about in leicester, if its just general run of the mill cars you are after. :)

I've seen a few on Corbis and Getty but they're mainly the high-end cars (Rolls Royce, Bentley, etc...) people use when they're trying to look flash.

Maybe try contacting the press offices of car manufacturers, see of they'd give out some photos?

You could always go on Autotrader and find the cars that you want and ask the sellers for permission to use their photos as long as they are their own photos?

Thanks guys,

I looked at Corbis for photos, but could not work out the license fees, put one in the checkout & had a whole range of options that were very expensive and time limited.

Think I will be getting my camera out & then spruce up in photoshop.

Although I have emailed a few manufacturers if I can use their images.

Did you get any luck from the manufacturers? I'm also trying to build a car themed website and the legal issues of using branded car photos are quite confusing.

On the one hand, most things I read when Googling suggest that basically you can't use car photos where the brand is obvious. This seems to be further confirmed by the fact stock photo sites don't sell these types of car photos. On the other hand, most commercial car websites I visit do use high quality car photos, often identical to ones produced as publicity photos by manufacturers.

I've emailed a few manufacturers for advice, I'll see what happens!

ok thanks I'll do the same.

It's frustrating because there are sites out there using publicity wallpaper pictures which I want to use, but I can't get a definite answer on the legality of it. For example:

jamesalistair.co.uk
mobileecuremapping.co.uk
masperformance.co.uk
