Hi

I am busy setting up my workplace for browser testing. I have installed a number of the older browser on my mac thus far: firefox, safari, chrome, and opera. I took one of each version and installed it. But I need to know how far back to go. I mean I want to be sure my site is compatable with most of the browsers out there, but how do I know what is the realistic minimum that I need to test on. How far back do you guys go. two, three versions back or even more. Its not like I want to spend the majority of my time starting up stacks of browsers and testing if it is not necessary. Are there any sites that give demographics on browser use, that would answer a lot of questions.

I am installing IE on my pc side. Are there other important browsers Ive missed. I will have to test linux on the site mentioned by someone else here in the chat, because I don't have a linux system.

Also I am working on Adobe products, anyone got experience with Browserlab: what do you think of this resource.

Thanks
Felicia

Generally most of my corporate customers are still using IE 6! so thats what i aim for although i usually build a site to look perfect in IE8/7,Firefox, Safari, Chrome then just adapt for IE 6 so it looks good but isnt 100%.

Hope this helps :)

If its corporate e.g. an Intranet and they are using IE6 or the client specifically requests it then you have to support it, but I think it is reasonable to charge additional to do so. IE6 has many security loopholes and should not be used on the public internet.

Otherwise Firefox 3.x, Safari 5.x, IE 7 & 8.

I found this pretty useful, obviously doesnt tell you which browsers your visitors use but still gives you a starting point to consider
