http://umgcdn.vnetri..._tech_final.flv - this is the video to be played. The flash file has to load from this link not the swfobject stuff.

Usually ild put it on firezilla do some html and it will play.

However my boss said it will be slow loading for people in america and stuff, so he wants it to play through that url like i exsplained.

is this even possible?

thanks

Google:- embed flv in web page for lots of tutorials.

Here's one comment You can't display flv's on a web page without an FLV player of some sort independently. I'm not certain how older versions of flash handle FLV's, but Flash 8 Pro has that built in. The only way you can stream is to get the FLV on a Flash stream server which is going to cost you money, or to upgrade flash which is going to cost you money. from

Another comment: Many video fans always have the question mark in their mind. How to watch our own FLV in the web page? It is very difficult, isn't? Actually it is not as hard as many people thought of this matter. As long as you use the appropriate tool and know the steps, it is very simple!

Tips we need to know:

1. Convert FLV to SWF.

We know FLV can not be played directly in the web page. It must be embed into a player. Here the player indicates the SWF files. With the player, you can start playing video, pause the video playback, play the video with full screen or adjust the volume.

Its not possible unless the browser has some kind of flv player plugin (most of them do in the form of shockwave but that doesn't autp play unless its embedded in HTML)

I think someone is pulling your leg, how the browser handles files is down to the browser and plugin support. You can't just make browsers open files, even if you are universal studios, imagine the hell that would break out if someone could make browsers auto-open exe files.

I agree with above, You would need a plugin unless browser supports, I know that with HTML5 the spec helps play video / sound files and that still depends on what the browser supports. Read that in latest .NET mag :)

just embed it in HTML as normal, tell your boss that the analytical data gathered is more valuable than speed of loading (we're talking like 1 second saving)

Even if it were slow loading, making it a direct link doesn't speed up the transfer rate. The only time saved is that of the rest of the HTML/images which, with good optimisation and the current Internet speeds, should only take a few seconds. People are willing to wait for videos to buffer, we've lived with it forever.

Don't forget the fact that loading a video in that manner means a popup window (which may be blocked or ignored), so immediately you'll lose interest from a number of viewers. If not a new tab/window, then you're taking the user away from the site, to load a video, only for them to have to physically go back to the site again and re-download it (cache depending).

Embed in HTML or lose out on viewers who can't use this (potentially real) hack you're being told about. End of story. Your boss, in this case, is wrong.
