Hey
I have an .flv that i want to put on a website. its going to be a video that plays in the banner section basically giving a run down on what the company does. the .flv is coming in at about 7.1mb's. Obvioulsy i want to make it run as quickly and as smoothly as possible. Anyone know what would be the best way to approach it?

i have heard that there is a way of fixing it so that flash displays a version depending on what speed broadband you have? like if you have a really bad connection it would show a very low res version, or if you have a really fast speed it will show the best quality version? Is this possible? and if so how would i go about it? I dont really know anything about puttin video online so obvioulsy the easier the better!
Cheers

Hi alzer81

I think you might be talking about Flash Media Server here which has RTMP Dynamic Streaming, this allows the stream to switch the bitrate according to the bandwidth available.

You could look at doing this via a CDN (Content Delivery Network) such as Influixs, which would save you having to buy Flash Media Server and a server.

If you just want to present the video to your website users, then I would just advise you get the file as small as possible but retain the quality, always go quality over size, and use progressive delivery.

Your size of 7.1mb should be fine, you could always ask people on the forum to test it for you and collect data regarding –

The OS -
Broadband Speed –
Browser Used –
Processor Speed –
Flash Version –

This may help you optimise the file.

Hope this helps.
