I am quite new here and I was surprised when I saw forum directory dedicated to stock photos. There is one question left - why are the same photos by the same author differently priced at different sites? For instance, I found he same photo at 2 photostocks, but the price differs: http://www.istockpho...07386-music.php

At depositphotos 1 credit is 1 dollar, at iStock 1 credit is from 1.20 to 1.50, which means that the same picture costs 6 dollar for max size at depostitphotos and at least 2 times more at iStock (12 or 15 dollars). How could that be?

What's the difference?

All image libraries are not equal, its like any supermarket, some will be cheaper and others more expensive. Usually quality and quantity influence this.

I wish is was a photographer who set prices. But these online stock agencies have taken over. Stock is good but custom is better. support a local photographer and work out deals. Maybe they will support you

Some stock photo sites only allow contributors to charge a certain amount. Sites that usually charge more are as a result of achieving a higher amount of customers.

do you mean photographers can set prices for their works or you're talking about something else?

As people have said, it just depends on what kind of client base the agencies are wanting. Whether they want loads of customers buying up all their imagery or if they want professional customers buying what they need. As someone mentioned above, it's like a supermarket. One will be more expensive than the other.

Ok, I understand the difference in prices if the quality is different, but it's the same picture) And who are those professional customers? Do you mean buyers or sellers?
